Graphics in Free Software have been improving and we've been getting more
themable stuff such that we can have most everything in the same style and
we can choose the style.

I do remove the quiet but I also remove the splash. Interesting that I
never even tried leaving the splash option. I just assumed that was for the
splash graphic and that if I left it there I would not see the messages I
want.
BTW, I also add a vga=773 (I think that was the mode) and a verbose j

Yes, I also like helping people. That's one of my main motivations behind
working with Free Software, I am allowed to help people.
As to the emergency exercise, I was able to confirm

All,
I would strongly recommend that before they shoot off about the resources
being used, that they read the linked article. Any anger should be directed to
the US Senate. The article states that the Senate has done little to nothing to
make the public aware of the past tests. It also states
not sure about ubuntu, but other distros (fedora for instance) allow
you to see details with ALT+D during the splash screen.
also, i think there is a grub or kernel option for silent mode...
--silent, i think, been a while since I played with that.

I'm sending this to both PLUG and ASULUG, just so everyone knows.
Off-topic, but I thought folks might like to know about this, since it
will probably have an impact on travel times and whatnot.

Agreed, but neither sides .ssh files have changed. I am becoming
tempted to just regenerate the keys on both sides and copy the public
key over and be done with it. But on that note, last time I did this I
did both RSA and DSA, but I can not remember my reasoning for not just
doing RSA. Any one

Ok, let us see if this make since. I have three servers that back up
nightly to my remote back up site. They all use SSH and authenticate
with RSA/DSA keys. Two of the three servers are still connecting to the
back up machine just fine but the third suddenly fails. How and why
should this happe
You might also check that you are using all USB 2.0 HIGH SPEED. IOW, USB
2.0 specifies 3 speed settings and you might want to check what yours is set
for. I saw a simialr problem a couple of years ago and found that my BIOS
had a setting for HIGH SPEED being on or not. Once I changed the BIOS
