Actually you can do this. but it is a little strange, and this was under SAMBA 3
I do know you had to create the computer acct first and then join the
domain, and it still runs as 2000 level not 2003 or higher. I don't
remember any more details than that.

not even close to the same type of thing as Active Directory or a
Windows Domain Controller.

yes...
Macintosh Finder interaction with NFS has a little latency.
Makes me gag every time some Mac person talks about ho

Another package I have used in mixed LinuxWindows environment is GOsa2.
It uses an LDAP backend, and has a pretty nice front end.

This is for curiosity, I'm not presently trying to implement Windows
networking using a Linux box as the Primary Domain Controller. How
would a Linux PDC emulate Active Directory Services? Do you still need
a server grade Windows license running to provide ADS?

I want to network using SMB. The network typically consists of a
Netgear router, three Macs and one Kubuntu. Sometimes one of the Macs
boots into Vista. I want the Kubuntu box to be the PDC.
My recollection was that making a *nix box PDC over SAMBA involved
setting 3 or 4 configuration toggles.
