I have a Tata Indicom broadband connection, which works perfectly in
Windows. I am, however, unable to configure it for Linux.
The Ethernet card to which the broadband cable is attached is configured as
DHCP.
I've set the card to DHCP even in Linux, but it still does not allow net
access.

I'd like to rip a movie on DVD such that it fits one CD -- so that its

I've used mencoder for this, but the resulting .avi always seems to be
over 900MB. (I've tried scaling it to a lower resolution as well --

I had that problem too. But I got it solved out the easy way :) I
installed the rpm's directly:
To install MPlayer 1.0pre5 on SuSE 9.2,
you can install the following RPM's:
(1) w32codec-all
(2) lame-3.96.1-pm
(3) MPlayer-1.0pre5-pm
You can find the w32codec rpm here:

I can browse all the Windows shares on my LAN with LinNeighborhood,
but when I try to mount it, it gives an error saying "Cannot resolve
name". I can however mount them manually using smbmount.
When I mount using smbmount, the mounted shares do show up in
LinNeighborhood, but when I try to unmount

I've compiled and installed Mplayer 1.0pre5 on my SuSE 9.1 machine.
Mplayer works fine except for the fact that when playing MPEG videos,
there is a buzzy noise in the background and the sound seems slightly
distorted.
What could be the problem here? The MPEG decoder libraries?
