So which mode is it operating in: PIO or DMA?
If it is in PIO mode, how do I set it to DMA mode by default (on bootup)?
Any init command/script that needs to be modified?

Hi pluggies!
I've recently installed SuSE 9.2 on my system.
I tried to install my modem drivers and it gave some errors. Probably
it's because the modem drivers were not built for kernel 2.6.x
But then I tried to install mplayer 0.91 using the usual commands as:

Hi Ameet!
Have you tried kppp?
But before that, make sure you have installed the modem drivers.
If you are using internal modem, like say conexant(d-link) HSF modem,
you can try to download drivers from linuxant.org or look at
linmodems.org
These drivers should have a README file or an INSTALL fi

Thanks for the quick help!
To extend my question: is there a way to mount .img images in a similar fashion?
These are images created by k3b.

Yeh 9.1 comes with 2.6; what I meant was that the drivers I got with
the NIC were for 2.4.x and 2.2.x, not for 2.6.x.
I guess I used wrong word "uns
Hello all!
I'm using SuSE 9.0. I'd like to know if there's any virtual cd
software for linux. Something on the lines of Alcohol 120% for windos.
Such a software should be able to create 1 or more virtual CD/DVD
drives. With this done, the OS thinks there's another cd drive
attached to the system.
Hi!
I won't say I found SuSE 9.1 less stable than 9.0, but it didn't
support my PCI network card, which 9.0 supported fine. Infact, when I
had 9.0 installed on one partition, and 9.1 installed on other. As
soon as I installed 9.1, my NIC stopped responding! I tried Ping.

I don't think that is true. When in legacy mode, you can select which
drives you want active.
You can make this selection in the sub-menu which appears, when you
set to legacy mode.

You can do this through BIOS.
In BIOS menu, go to advanced->drive configuration
In that, change the "enhanced mode" to "legacy mode"; a sub-menu will appear.
