Alternatively, you download SoftSqueeze through the slimserver site, somehow the IP address of the Slimserver is added to the configuration if you do that. I run Slimserver at home on an XP box, but sometimes run SoftSqueeze on my notebook in the office or in the hotel while I am traveling.

Just before moving to alien, I have lame mplayer in Usr/local/bin. I moved both to Usr/bin. I don't Know if this is a mac thing or the same happens with a pc, but when I moved them theykind of split. So now they are in both locations. I did install Alien from the location you say. I
