Could it be more visually obvius when you really are conected to a
player and able to controll it ?
I often find myself quickly switching to iPeng and tries to pause a
player and nothing's happening then seconds later the progress bar
jitters or something else shifts slightly

Hi slartibartfast,
automounted USB-Disks should appear under "/media/usb" even after
restart. If you use the desktop environment then you can also mount as
user odroid and then the mountpoint is little different. UTF-8 should
also work and the mountpoints of the USB-drives are managed by usbmount
