I notice we have lost Jazz FM again, on Duet in my case.
Their website has changed and I suppose improved in that you can catch
up on three or four previous shows, instead of just the latest.
Triode, is there any chance please?

Can Triode let us know what this means for BBCiPlayer? Thanks.

I think the answer is we don't know yet - if they replace these streams
with ones which are playable through LMS then the plugin can be updated
to play these, but it probably means that streams will need to be sent

I'm guessing (and hoping) that either LMS will be able to play the HDS
or HLS streams and handle the codec, or someone will provide a plugin
that enables LMS to do so.
In another thread I provided a hack to allow a user play some HLS
streams using vlc with a special plugin.
I have a question about the volume slider adjustment behavior. I have
been using Squeezeslave with the -volume off parameter to fix volume at
100%. I then have a script to pickup the values for prefset server
volume which changes the volume on my amplifier via rs232. This works
well with both
What are HDS and HLS? I didn't see anything about those in the BBC news,
only that WMA was being withdrawn and that rtmp streaming might change
to http.

Your plugin needs to answer the getexternalvolumeinfo command. I can't
provide a link right now but I think a Google search will lead you to
the thread in the dev forum.

Hi Mr Harris,
Just wondered how I could activate the Shutdown to Alternate Server
action via a script from other than iPeng which I use now. My basic
setup involves DemoPad and Domoticz. I usually have a switch on DemoPad
which activates a switch in Domoticz which then runs the scripts I need.

HDS and HLS are next generation streaming protocols for audio and video
which can alter bit rate dynamically and so can handle varying networks
loads and avoid re-buffering etc. HLS is from
The BBC's Audio Factory initiative is somewhat unintelligible to a
non-specialist such as myself! I'm left thinking that HDS and HLS are
evolutions of HTTP by Adobe and Apple respectively, that the BBC will
stream to desktops with HDS and to mobiles with HLS, and will use use

I'm left wondering what the BBC thinks is wrong with the protocols we
are using today. They work fine for me. OK so they want to turn WMA off,
fine. But why change everything else too when it is working well?
