I experience this problem a lot, so maybe to start with,
yes, same for me, every few songs.
how big are your playlists @maddymarc ?
Mine are typically large... it's possible that I see this happen more
with larger lists (say ~400 songs).. but can't quite tell at the moment)

On another note, should seeking work with this new plugin? for me it
doesn't (I've tried from both the web interface, and also by touching
the screen on a squeezebox Touch). I don't use it much, but not sure if
