MP3 streams are not available for live radio, only for listen again in
the UK. Hence with AAC not selected you will get wma streams. These
will only be playable on a SB2 or later device. On your SB1 you should
be able to playback listen again streams in flash/mp3 - try one of these
rather than
Here's the log once with just AAC checked, once with just MP3 checked.
Seems to have made no difference as the logs never make a request for
anything other than an mms:// protocol request.
Could it be as simple as iPlayer not correctly reading the settings and
never requesting an MP3 based strea
For UK listeners the BBC send live streams in Flash/AAC, Flash/MP3, WMA
and RealAudio.
To play a stream with no transcoding on an SB1 player you need to use
the Flash/MP3 stream as SB1 cannot play any of the other formats.

Given the NAS can't transcode. Do the live streams of radio come in a
format that can be decoded by the player?
If so, what is a URL that I could use to test with?

The BBCiPlayer plugin should only deliver an MP3 if it is available.
You are using the BBCiPlayer plugin menu and not the BBC App menu ?
Test with a BBC live national station such as R1, R2, R3 or R4.

I've only got the MP3 iPlayer advanced option set and it still gives the
mms:// error.
To be clear this is a first edition squeezebox if that makes any
difference.
I agree it is because the Duo can't support transcoding, does it need
to or is there a way to get native streams that the squeezebox
Since you are in the UK you have MP3 streams available which will not
need any transcoding but you must disable AAC and WMA in BBCiPlayer
settings (*not* Settings/Advanced/Filetype).
