Getting rid of the the ... manpage thing is on my list of changes to
make in the next version of pod2man and pod2text. I'm not sure what to do
about things like section and entry though. Suggestions?

FYI:
I've been spending the past week thinking a great deal about the issue of
encodings for POD. That's the one issue I've really been stuck on -- lots
of ways to do it, each with its own problems and advantages. But I think
I've reasoned it out to my satisfaction now.
