The Postfix website is available again. The company hosting the server
hardware informed me that there are "some issues with the PXE feature
with this server model", whatever that means exactly, which their staff
was able to fix in the meantime. I find it interesting how this
particular server has
www.postfix.org is temporarily not available. No information will
be lost, as this is a replica. Thanks to Ralph Seichter for
investigating.

So, if I understand correctly, the admin at Inria is wrong.
MX is optional if A/ exists for same domain/subdomain
BTW, in the mean time, I could see on another machine that exim4
has the same behavior as postfix.

had a little white space after the OK's
Will come back to it for a 2nd scan with a fresh head presently
I am wondering if the following is allowed/recommended practice ?

I suggest that
When sending a mail to some @helpdesk.inria.fr address, postfix tries
to connect to helpdesk.inria.fr (which does not have a MX):
Nov 21 15:43:26 joooj postfix/smtp[748304]: D1A104A9:
to=<[...]@helpdesk.inria.fr>, relay=none, delay=76462, delays=76431/0.1/30/0,
dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred
