boxes, I recently came across a problem that is driving me nuts whereby:

Do you have access to ArcGIS? If so have a look at the Data
Interoperability extension. It uses FME, and in my experience does a
very good job at uploading to PostGIS. You can usually get a trial
licence of the extensions if it's a one time thing.
