I have a 540c I picked up cheapish, and it's working wonderfully at the

I'm curious about the keyboard though - it's VERY spongy in the middle,

I am not familiar with the Linux questions, but I do
have the Sonnet upgrade. The only issue I have noticed
is that it appears to not be happy with OS 8.5 or 8.6.
Otherwise, it is a happy camper.

I have to respectfully disagree.
I have played around with the WS a few times (never
owned one, sadly) and I actually prefer the 1400
keyboard.
Mine is crisp and concise and even works better than
the ADB keyboard which came with my C600. Even my
clumsy paws can type comfortably.

My 520 is rock solid all over, try taking the keyboard off.

I learned a lot about macintosh in this short period.
I prepared a boot disk image (from NT) with formating

Norton disklock is hiding the disk from formating

Not really, though I have never done it, all you need to do (I believe, and
could be wrong) is to unscrew the bottom screws, the keyboard is held in by
these, but should be able to be removed. Then check that, and if it doesn't
have an internal modem, once the kb is off, what a perfect time to

Torx 8, and it does have to have to have about 1 or so of depth to
it...the pop-on heads for my set didn't work.
Try tightening the middle keyboard screw ALL the way down. I believe it's a
Torx 8. If it just turns loosely and never tightens down, something is
loose. Remove the other screws and check the middle screw--see if it's
sheared off--and check the hole for it on the bottom of the keyboard--it

Does anyone know of any shareware/freeware graphics/image software that

Graphic Converter runs fine on my 540C, as does Rainbow Painter, and
both have PPC versions.
Graphic Converter is $35 shareware,

DOH! Smacks head!
I forgot the best one! NIH Image is an incredible tool, rivaling
Photoshop, and is completely free.
Have you tried GraphicConverter? (www.lemkesoft.com) -- I think.
