I dont know about a fix, but I had a pb140 and a 5300 have the same
problem, luckily at the time they were both fixed under warranty. The
flat ribbon cable gets a lot of flexing at that point and it cracks

Hi,
Sorry for jumping in late if this thread is already done with.
I had a similar problem with a 48MB RAM module a year or so back. The

Can anyone identify the PB 540c PRAM Battery type and a source to
obtain one (preferably in Canada) ?
Thanks. Keith

Thanks, Gary.
One or two questions:
Can you use the PCMCIA card/adapter cable with another
drive? If so, does the original drive accept a cable
that enables it being used inside a desktop?
Thx

I don't think so, George. I looked at the drive I pulled from the 3400
before installing a larger drive and if memory serves me correctly, it
doesn't look the same. I've got the travelstar at work; so i'll have to
look to be absolutely sure, though.

I bought a used 7200/120 and when I boot it up I get a

Thanks

I received a PB540c that has been laying on a shelf for 2 years.
Works fine, but batteries seem to be dead.
I've downloaded EMMpathy

but it still can't see the batteries.

It's the updated chimes of doom. First
There is a guy who keeps auctions on Ebay for these. They usually go for about $24 for
a kit which I think comes with the battery, instructions (which you will need if you
have never done this before) and the necessary torx wrench. I also had an email from
another person who sells this
Thanks again, Gary.
I've contacted IBM, 'cause I think there must be an
adapter somewhere.

Nope. It's a pair of lithium cells about the size of a US quarter
connected together with three leads. It is *not* the large square
alkaline used in the desktop machines.

I get mine off of eBay, or, occasionally, through the LEM List.
The two batteries are Panasonic VL2330s and are unique in
Made a boo-boo. I neglected the PB in fron.
Below is for desktops. Sorry, Mike A
The pram battery for the 500 series is a 4.5 volt battery. Same used in
Performa, LC, and Mac/Powermac models 630 - 6400. Apple part #922-0570.
I bought mine at Radio Shack at a very competitive price.

Not at the point he's talking about. At power on, any
sound that is generated, e.g., chime, is coming from
ROM. Ain't no user choices at the ROM level. Would be
nice though . . .

BTW, this is a pretty involved procedure to do, you basically have to
dismantle about 75% of the machine to get to the battery (what were they
thinking???).
What we do for customers is offer this service for a mere $25 plus shipping.
While doing this we will totally overhaul the unit- examine
Well, upon disassembling my pb5300, I checked and discovered
the PRAM battery is good.
I still have a couple of oddities though...
When I plug the AC adapter into the back of the Powerbook, the
machine starts up on it's own without my pressing the power

Hey all,
Maybe someone out there can help me! I'm looking for the Japanese version of

the Japanese keyboard was standard... most examples you'll find in the US
