I recently installed 10.1.4 on my 3400c/240, and here's my impressions:
1. What you have been told already is true. You can't really do much, if
any, useful work on a 3400 in OS X, because the 3400 is slow, and because
you can't install anything higher than 10.1.5 on it. Something about 10.2

Hey,
I've been wondering if it's still possible to use Eudora on a mac as old
as my powerbook 170? I found all the programs for it on a bunch of
different sites, but they mostly seem out of date. My 170 only has 4MB of
RAM and is still running system 7.0.1 (until I get the time to put all
I use Eudora 1.4.3 on my PowerBook 170, and it works very well. I have the
full 8MB of RAM, but I don't think that makes much of a difference with an
application as small as Eudora.
By the way, I think you might want to stick with 7.0.1 or 7.1 on the PB170.
System 7.5.3 takes up a lot more
I'mn still working with 8.1--any browser suggestions there?

Thanks, KG.
Some LInux installs do work on the 3400 (Gentoo is
one), but what if you discard those OSX apps and
extensions that either don't work or you don't need?
Best

The latch on my otherwise excellent 3400c has lost it's spring action and I
must manually move it for the lid to stay shut. Anyone know how to fix
this?

Well, MacLynx worked quite well for about 28 hours, then eBay changed
to Secure Sign in only, and now I can't use it! I guess 3400's are
about the cost of this 5300 a year and a half ago; time to upgrade

A 2.0 card will work in fall-back mode just fine. I use this for two
different models of digicams (one of which is also Firewire capable).
Yes, the earlier standard cards (Mac Ally ?) are hard to come by, and the
