I Must agree with everyone here about this issue,I have owned every type of power-book apple have made apart from the 2400 series and i think that if you want a low-end colour PB for typing, Then the 1400 would be the best choice. Also if you decide to improve the book over time then the Ram has a

John, It might be easier if you said how much you are willing/can afford to spend.. Then match $$ with features. I have a 1400cs, 133 and a meager 16 MB ram.. No lie the screen is adequate and overall it's pretty quick. The real beauty is it's crisp full-sized keyboard. I can and have ty

I'd also recommend a 1400 series. Mine is very robust, has a great keyboard, and goes on the internet wirelessly. Parts are readily available, and it is easy to upgrade the processor, if you wish. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by and... Small Dog Electronicshttp://www

The ubiquitous 1400c would be my choice for a low $$$ solution. Next, a 3400c. Note that the 1400 is a NuBus-based machine, and although it can accept PCMCIA cards, it cannot accept CardBus cards. Note also that the 3400 is a PCI-based machine, and although it cannot, ex-factory, accept CardB

If you are seriously considering an x400 powerbook, I'd definitely recommend a 2400c, that is, if you can find one and don't mind its (small) size. The machine feels rather fast (the 1400 is much more sluggish), on par with the 3400c with a much more "modern" feeling keyboard and the screen as

John, I have a number of 1400C machines, and I can recommend them highly (and they should handle your specified tasks handily). The screen is color and has good contrast and visibility, the keyboard is very nice and a pleasure to type on, the 1400C has enough 'oomph' to handle a lot of useful
