I have a Personal LW NT networked via a Farallon NT adapter: all the
Macs in my environment can see it, even wirelessly, while the PB 5300
can only when apple talk is via modem port.
On the other hand the PB 5300 can see and print wirelessly to the
Apple LW 12/640 and even to the Color SW 2500
Ok. I've got a 520c with the AAUI ethernet adapter, and I have a
Comcast cable modem. Pardon my ignorance, but I'm used to plug-and-
play with my iMac.
I've hooked up my 520c to the cable modem, set TCP/IP to ethernet,
and get IP by DHCP server, and then... nothing. I get an error
message
I had that same problem--make sure you also have your AppleTalk connection
set to Ethernet (or alternate ethernet if necessary)--both are needed to
get online.

AppleTalk and TCP/IP are two totally different protocol stacks. You

Yeah. That and both are set to Ethernet. I'll try your suggestion

Greetings. The PowerBook 2400c I am getting is currently configured
with 2GB hard drive, 80MB RAM, and running System 7.6. I amy
eventually opt for a larger hard drive, but will likely live with the
existing 80MB RAM. I am thinking about an OS upgrade and would be
interested in your advice
Hi Victoria, thanks so much for the reply!
I will do as you suggested, but I am also going to look for another
perhaps on eBay. If the unit doesn't work, I can at least part it out.
This time though, I will look for a 540c with the hinges still intact!

May be two separate and different protocols, but on my 520c (and the 5300c
for that matter) if both AppleTalk and Open Transport aren't set to the
same ethernet setting, then I go nowhere. My inexpert thought was that AT
still needed to find the zone it was working in to identify the computer

Maybe you did, but I suspect not.
OK. Maybe the extensive features of what I've got confused me:

I'd run OS 8.6 on a 2400 with that configuration. It can do OS 9, but 9 in
my experience is a little sluggish on a 603e unless you're using a 3400c or
a desktop with 128MB or more of RAM. I think you'd find that 8.6 gives you a
good balance of features without OS 9's sometimes bloated feeling.
