... it could be that most notebooks have inadequate cooling of that
area. However, from my limited experience, cooling under the 'Book
won't do anything to help, because of how the PC card cage is
designed.
I think you pretty much hit it on the head. Laptops tend to have
very poor cooling.

that I look for 5,400 RPM. I'm looking at some on newegg.com. New
name brand 40GB notebook drives are running around $60-70. I don't

Not joking at all. I once bought a lot of 2 NEW Li-Ion Batteries for
$18 including the cost of shipping on e-Bay. They are very cheap
there. I am sure with a little effort, I could get them for that
price again.
