The display on my 1400 isn't working properly. The screen displays
either solid white or some other strange pattern. I think it's the
small circuit board behind the screen. The screen works if I press on a
specific location on the back. After I unscrewed the board and pivoted
it away, I
There is also a cheap widely available 3COM card for which someone on
the
list has written a driver!
Really? Which card, and where can I find the driver? Thanks, everyone,
for your input.

I'm looking for some sort of Fast Ethernet card for my PB 1400. I've
seen the Hawking PC card, the only one I've found with Mac drivers, but
the readme states it doesn't work on a 1400. Are there any
alternatives, such as a generic driver for another brand of fast
ethernet card?

Just a thought -
Have you tried the shutdown folder?
There's nothing in the Startup or Shutdown Items folders. The problem

I've got a really strange problem with my PB 1400 - it won't power off
at all.
If I shut down from within the Finder, it restarts.
I have Password Security turned on. If I click cancel, which normally
shuts off the computer, it immediately restarts.
If I let the Password Security dialog time

My 1400 has a strange problem. When I unplug it, it has a tendency to
lose the PRAM settings, causing the system to not boot from the battery.
If I plug the power adapter in again, the system boots up without
pressing the power button. I must then use TechTool to reset the PRAM,
or I will not

I have an A959 Global Village PC Card modem, and I don't know what type of
dongle I need. The site I am ordering from, TheSupplyNet, lists two dongles.
One is a Platinum Pro, A959 56K MAC Combo (RJ45 RJ11) and has a
Ethernet port and a modem port. The other is a Power Port Platinum 56K

I thought my PB battery is 12 volts. If yours is 10.8 v. it's probably below
readable levels, and no where near fully charged. They're actually cells,
you know. I believe all NiCd cells are 1.2 v each. If they drop much below
1.1 v each, (that's where you would normally recharge them), or 11
Nope! There is no unix (afaik) that supports the 540 due to the oddball
68lc040 chip in it. The only 68k unix that is available is one of the bsd
clones, either netbsd or freebsd.
That's not *entirely* accurate. You might, emphasis on might, have a
specific version of the LC040 that is not
