I have pulled a couple drives out of a IBM TP600 and put them in my 3400, no
issues. Remove the IBM mounting tray and mount the drive in the 3400, no
issues at all.
Only thing to look for is some drives draw more or less power. So a new
drive may suck down the batteries more than another drive
I run 48M ram on my PB3400/200 with OS9.1 with no issues at all.
I do audio recording with Sound Studio and still have no skipping or
freezing. I keep VM on to 64M.
I don't have it installed right now, I but did have Office 98 installed
also.

I just added 24meg to my 1400

I would say probably so, I boot my PB3400 with an iMac OS9.04 CD. As well
as install OS with it. (that is a hack if you will, but works and is rock
stable with the 9.1 update)

With my bunch of old PB180's they often won't power up with the battery
installed, but try it with the battery out. Mine almost always work fine
then.

new owner...says it doesn't run on
the battery and won't charge (it did before) and it runs for 5-10 min. on
the AC
I put a 3GB IBM Travelstar from my Pentium 233 IBM Stinkpad 600 into my
PB3400 with no issues. Formatted with Drive Setup and away I go! Use the
latest Drive Setup for your OS and see if that helps.
