The only way I could get a CD-ROM to work with my 520c or 5300c was to use
a pass-thru terminator. Plus, it's really easy for the HDI - SCSI
adapter to shift if you reposition the laptop, and lose a connection.
Occasionally the drive's not seen at startup and I have to use SCSI Probe
to remount
We have a PB5300C and a PowerPC Upgraded 500 series.
Both connect easily to our external CD (which is an Apple,by the way)
We use the Apple specific lead for the connection from the square back
terminal in the books to the SCSI terminal on the CD player. The second
socket on the CD player ihas a
Is a pas-thru terminator the same thing as a passive terminator?

I keep a 300i or a 600i in an external box just for PB use.

Usually, but not always.
A pass-though terminator passes all 50 signal and ground lines through
to the next device, taking its terminator from the TERMPWR line.
An active terminator utilizes devices other than pure resistive

Hello! I have a 5300cs and I am trying to use a scsi cdrom with it. It is
running 8.1, 8mb ram, 758 mb hd. When I plug the scsi in, it won't say that
the cdrom is plugged in. I rebooted several times. Could it be because the
cdrom drive has 2 scsi ports and one doesn't have a terminator on it?

The CD-ROM should be plugged for SCSI ID=3, and for Termination by
Device.
The PBs won't provide terminator power, so any kind of external
terminator won't work (no power from the bus).

That, for sure. Gotta be terminated, and then you may have issues re OS and
format and drivers. I'm fiddling with a
