I'd be grateful for any advice on the following problem:
Powerbook 3400 on OS 8.6
The CD drive module has stopped operating - was working fine up to about 10 days ago.
Floppy module is operating fine. Now, when a CD is loaded it's not appearing on the
desktop or accessible in any way. Running
The 3400 don't have SCSI hard drives or CD-ROMs. There was some mention last week on
this list I believe about cleaning the drive but as you've already surmised, it might
be a hardware problem.

As Tom already pointed out, the CD-ROM drive on the 3400 is IDE, not
SCSI. It _should_ have ID=0 (which resolves to something like ATA
Bus 1, Device 0) in the Apple System Profiler.
