Just formatting it won't make it work on the mac--you need to run DriveSetup to get it to be usable as a device, especially if you want to boot from it. (I'm using a 256meg unit in my 5300c as a startup device--I'll go to 1 gig soon as I see a rebate on a CF--those things can be costly! :) )
