Caleb, my roommate repairs office machinery for a living, 20+ years--even
he gave up on trying to resolder the power connector back on my 5300 -
which is why I'm now either using my 520c or a G4 Powerbook. I too liked
the 5300, but I was putting more money into the machine to keep it fixed
I was able to get it soldered back pretty easily, and gained a spare
logic board in the process. However, I'd still like to replace my 190
power connector with one from a Lombard or Wallstreet, so I can use the
YoYo and have a more secure connector. What works works, though.

I liked my 5300, but it kept needing repairs--I ended up buying 3
additional for parts before finally giving up and getting a G4 powerbook.
I liked the 5300's screen, and built-in PCMCIA slot (wifi was easy), but
the power connector on the MB is a killer to repair. Had to replace the

We have a Revision C card adapter for our 540C which is never
usedAny offers?
Also have a working upgraded 540C needless to say ///plus an 8550/132

I was looking on eBay and they seem to be cheaper than the 1400s, so
it looks like I would be able to afford one for $50. But sometimes

The power adapter plug on the motherboard can come lose from it's solder
connections very easily. Happened on 2 of the 5300's I had. And they're
not easy to repair correctly.

The power adapter on the 5300 and 190 uses a skinny connector that no
other powerbook ever used, the connection on the motherboard is

Oh, my -- I just call those round smelly things that turn up behind

road apples used to describe that

My 5300 started acting PowerManager funny.
The startup button won't start my 5300c Powerbook from
a fully charged battery (I just get a static type
noise). The startup button does work when the charger
is plugged in. The machine will also startup from
just the battery by using the reset button.
I have a powerbook 5300c, OS8.6 64mg ram. The cell phone is a motorola

According to the phone manual it can be used to connect a laptop to the

What is the best way for me to do this? I saw an article about it a few
weeks ago
but didn't save it at the time.
Thanks in advance

Heather,
Yes, I was going to say that I considered both those others before
choosing a 3400. The speed, display, RAM capacity, as I recall, made up my
mind for me. The 3400 is a great powerbook, if you can locate one in your
price range, which you may well be able to do with PB prices coming

I remember reading that the 1400 keyboard was good. I find the 5300
keyboard nearly intolerable.
I just read Remy's web 1400/3400 comparison and he answers my keyboard
question there.

Hmmm... I too like the 1400 keyboard but don't recall disliking the 5300
one. The one I find really nearly intolerable is the iBook (tangerine).
