There is another possibility: It is a known problem (has happened to my 5300c before) that the RAM expansion chip (underneath the keyboard on the left side) tends to unseat itself and it causes exactly what you are describing: A white screen with no visible info on it. HTH, tobias. -- PowerB

I just found that I need to do that in my 3400 as well. It works fine except when I let the battery drain completely before charging it back up. If I do that, my date and time get reset to the *defaults*. I figure I should change it now before it gets worse. It's a no-brainer to change it. I
