Subject: Why can't updaters from the web be offered?
The person offering the Speed Doubler software updater was NOT
offering the paid software application, only a copy of the updaters
as they are no longer on the Connectix website.
The updaters are no good to anyone unless they already have

Not in the slightest! There is a HUGE difference between offering
something for free and placing
I understand your point, but that does not make it legal to copy and
distribute the material without written permission of the copyright holder.
As a musician and writer, I've had to give a lot of thought to such issues.
If you buy one of my music CDs, does that give you the right to copy it
to get more money out of the sale by having the
software on the computer. But unless they're also selling you the original CD (or
floppy) along with any books, license agreement, and serial number; then it's still
software piracy.

I see it all over ebay and not just Macs. Listings of systems with Loads of
software and on less then 10% a little note telling the buyer he should wipe
the hard drive. Like thats going to happen.

It's better to just buy the software, too many problems otherwise. Hard to
upgrade and if files become corrupted then all is lost. Besides there are
alternatves,ie instead of photoshop use macgimp.
Does one really need all the stuff in Microsoft office when Appleworks is
just as good?

Mac gimp is the unix based image program ,similar to photoshop. Except
it runs in Unix.
It is necessary to download XDarwin to run it.

If he was offering the full pacakge, I agree, he should be kicked off. The updates
are, possibly, another matter.

Beverly,
It appeared to me that he was offering the UPDATES, not the full software packages.
The updtaes were available as free downloads on Connectix's web site, but are now
abandonware, as Connectix no longer supports the products.
I missed the thread, but I personally have NO PROBLEM in

Yeah, it is too bad. But unforunately, you're not likely to see the
headline Apple halts production, stating 'Our Machines have reached their
pinnacle' either ;)
