Try a Revision Control System, CS-RCS is free or VSS if you have a MS Devel
Product. It is very inefficient with the access files but it does provide
an annotated history of file changes.
Most importantly it doesn't overwrite old versions , hence it is harder for
libraries to be corrupted as in
All the parts? I don't think you know the enormity of the task you have set
yourself.
Protel has a full time team doing this. All be it poorly.
For example, are you going to do all the footprints for MOVs, gas arrestors,
Tranzorbs, 10A inductors etc...
It cannot be done.

Protel is, as far as I know, the only software I'm using witch has this
silly
I was just reading the Hall, Hall and McCall book on Interconnect Theory and
noticed that they calculate Z0 for a microstrip line using the relative
dielectric constant, Er, but use the effective dielectric constant, Ee, when
calculating the propagation velocity (they give a simple equation for d
Sigh, I was hoping not to have to go into all this, but here goes.

Would there be any interest in a PCB footprint lib. with all the parts you
would ever need for free. I ask this because I am working on trying to get a
large lib. in Protel. It would have the silk screen, a fence that would be
on the last electrical layer to avoid component placement conflictions,
Ted,
If you mean a Protel ADV PCB v3.6, just use file open in Protel 99SE and the
file will be
converted to a new data base or windows file format (your choice).

I checked the archive for a thread regarding this but its not
there. I want to take a power PCB v3.6 file and import it into Protel. I was
told at one time this could be done?
Thank you,

Hello! 1. How do I have Protel 99SE use MS Excel to open .cvs files in the
data base format?
2. How do I have Protel 99SE use MS Word to open .txt files in the
data base format?
Currently I export the files and open them with MS Excel and MS Word.
Sincerely,

Wow thanks!! I would never have found that :-) It was indeed a rogue
footprint, protel couldn't be a bit more helpful though could it ;-) i had
to remove each footprint until it worked like you suggested.
many thanks
