PT accessibility in a school setting?

2010-11-24 Thread Chris Harrington
Hi, My name is Chris Harrington, and I'm brand new to the list, and to protools. I've never actually used it before, so I have some questions about it... How much can you do with protools? Can you do automation, audio, midi, different plugins, things like that? Also, I'm doing a career center p

Hi Chris, Welcome to the list. Pro Tools is, in many ways, totally accessible but there are still areas that need improvement, some more urgent than others. I'll try to give an overview. Virtually all areas of audio recording and editing are accessible. Creating tracks, routing input & output,

Hi Chris, Like Slau, I'd like to welcome you to the list. I'm not actually particularly useful on this list for help or anything, as I too am really new to ProTools, and have only really had my hands on it for small amounts of time over the last few weeks. However, I'm studying a masters cou

Hi, Thanks for the insights. I'm about half tempted to just start saving and buying a copy for myself... which leads me to another question.. If I were to get a mac book pro, with the I7, and 8GB of ram, would it be powerful enough to be a Sirius DAW? What kind of setups are you all using? Just so

For learning, you could opporate on half the machine to the best of my knowledge! There's nothing quite like having your own machine to opporate on, and with ProTools out now, you mightn't even have to buy an audio interface as ProTools 9 can run off apples built in core audio. Brian. --

Hi Chris, Like brian said, now that Pro Tools doesn't require a separate interface to function, it's easy to install it on virtually any machine and learn. To be on the safe side, I'd check Avid's compatibility pages just to make sure the Mac model is approved but, chances are, just about any m

Great points Slau. I too think a control surface is the way to go, and maybe, on that front it could be best for someone making an investment to hold off for 6 months and see what turns out to be compatible with PT 9. The 003 is still fairly costly for what it does, but then again so are most

Hi Frank, There's no better place to find the shortcuts than in the documents. forget the DVD—go to Applications>Digidesign>Documentation>Pro Tools and there you'll find the Pro Tools Shortcuts pdf. Actually, You can find it right in the help menu in Pro Tools. A word about learning shortcuts…

Hi Brian, Originally, it wasn't clear that Pro Tools would work with Core Audio if VoiceOver was using it. After having tried the USB headset (which workd fine), everything was cool. VoiceOver was coming out of the speakers and Pro Tools was coming out of the USB headset. After that, the next t

Hmm, I never managed to get VoiceOver to play through an external device. that's interesting. I'll have to experiment a little more, of course. :) Slau On Nov 24, 2010, at 10:47 PM, Frank Carmickle wrote: > Hey all > > On Nov 24, 2010, at 6:48 PM, Brian Casey wrote: > >> Great points Slau. I

Hi Guys, I haven't contributed as of yet, but I feel it's timely now. I am awaiting the arrival of a Nucleus -Solid State Logic 16-Channel DAW Console/Controller This should prove to be an excellent choice for a control surface for Pro Tools 9 and accessibility. Check out the link below.
