Monkey, The difference is this, if you Clip gain or Trem the track down and you plan on using plugins you have a better chance of hitting the plugs sweet spot when mixing. My understanding is just bringing the tracks fader down doesn't change the volue of the track as it hits your inserts. On

Just a quick addition for Rosco seeing as keeping an eye on the master meter got mentioned. If you wanted to do that, you'd need to create a new track with the track type set to master, and that's where you'd find the master meter. It's not visible on screen without that master track being created
