It has nothing to do with sample rate or bit depth. The link I sent earlier
explains the reasons why file interchange may or may not be important in a
given situation. Today, virtually everybody uses broadcast WAV files for
future-proofing. AES 31 takes that concept a step further.

All I can say is that if I record a .wav file -- usually from my
iphone via my roderec mic with a sample rate of 48k and bit depth of
24, if I don't check that check box then the import audio window says
that the file can be added directly to my session which is also at a
sample rate of 48k and bit
