Yes, you can either transfer to a key or simply deactivate the license and it
goes back to your iLok account and you can reactivate afterwards.

Actually, I think one of the announcements at NAMM will probably be a USB C

Hi, Can you transfer the license back and forth from a key to your
computer should you say want to upgrade the operating system and just to
make sure you don't lose the license? Nick Gawronski

One issue is that all the new Mac laptops are USB C, so in order to use the
iLok key, you'd need an adapter or hub to make it happen. I use Main Stage in
live settings, and I leave my iLok key at home because I don't want it damaged
or stolen. However, I authorize PT in the cloud, and most of
Well, I suppose that, when you consider Internet connectivity, regardless of
whether a wifi network is being used, there's a wire involved to get a network
connection to a router. Maybe that's what he was thinking? Anyway, yeah, PT
began supporting cloud activations last year. It's OK, I
Well that sounds a lot more logical to me slau.
Weird my dealer told me wrong, he is a very experienced guy.
For now I don't really mind using an iLok either. Although I hear at Pro Tools
startup something about Cloud also.

My understanding is that the replacement of licenses is up to the discretion of
the developer. To me, it's kind of a no-brainer to use an iLok key for
everything if possible. That said, it's also been convenient to just throw a
license on the drive to free up a USB slot if necessary. Horses for
Hi, What would happen if your hard drive crashed with the license on it
and you had no backup made could the license be restored? If say I did
have a full backup could I just restore everything back to the new
drive? I am just asking so I would know what I would have to do if

I have been using PT with Catalina, and I have to say that it's pretty
snappy. Also, the new VOCR is fabulous inside of Waves plugin windows. For
the first time, I have access to the preset load and save buttons on the
Waves toolbars, and it's been a game changer. VOCR alone made the upgrade
That's not correct. What it requires is an Internet connection which can
certainly be wireless. The connection can technically even be over an iOS
device. What it does not require is the iLok key itself but an Internet
connection is the key, so to speak.

Hi Jimmy,
It's not clear whose message you were responding to. I didn't see anybody post
anything on the list about this being for professionals only and to turn to
Avid with questions. Further, who's responding to your questions with
"smartass" questions?

I have learned from my Pro Tools dealer that the Cloud only registration needs
a wired internet connection, no wifi will do. ,
Anyone know why this is the case? I would definately like to have a ilok-less
setup.

Slau,
Thank you for your help. That's pretty much what i suspected for the
answer, but I definitely do appreciate your confirmation on the matter.
Have a wonderful rest of your day.
Chris.
