In the 1970 to early 1980 when I started working with computers almost
everything was N E and Lon Lat. Z was also positive down and azimuth
positive from North to East (good old right hand rule) since most of the
work was for drilling or mine workings this worked fine.

As a geologist and geophysicist it is extremely important for us to be
able to see below topography and inside (slice and dice) volumes as in
NVIZ in grass.
I have always thought that only being able to view topography form the
top or volumes form the outside not inside was called 2.5
yes it s pretty amazing how fast a new release can come out and we
really appreciate this.
