Hi,
FYI, http://www.spatialroundtable.com/
I think it is worth reading what these people are talking about
Climate Change Adaptation and GIS.
GeoDesign is ESRI initiative. ESRI like to sell their product to UN,
Government, NGO's, etc for Climate Change researchers and users.

Hi all -- hoping someone can help me out here.
Does Qgis have a way of exporting raster layers with the symbology
applied? Since it's nice and easy to make good looking classification
layers through qgis, I'd like to export these layers to a
georeferenced image format which I can split up into TMS

I think another way to phrase the question is why doesn't the deb (FYI
packages via the update tools are deb files) have a conflict rule that
removes the old version?
So if you have
libqgis1.7.2
there should be a conflict rule saying to remove other versions of
libqgis1.7.0 libqgis1.7.1

I'm not sure if they break the license, on the other hand how they can
be open source if they include closed software?

It seems we are allowed to ship the ecw read-only SDK on windows:

the libraries for Linux/OsX are the old ones, from ER-Mapper. That SDK
has a different license that should allow redistribution.

Ok but, as i wote above, there must be some error on ERDAS website.
The link I followed is

Then

This is very strange as a lot of other open source GIS programs ship the
ecw libs with each release, uDig; MapServer; etc. Are they breaking
the licence

I do not think it is related to the dbf-format - I can with no problem do
the calculation in 2 other GIS programs (Open Jump and Accuglobe).
And I get exactly the same error if I save the shape file as Sqlite a

The ERDAS free (gratis) SDK *is* read only. If you want to read and
write ecws you need a commercial license.

If I download the 4.1 version by ERDAS website (called
ECWJP2SDKSetup_20100920.exe) and I install this SDK, then under both
redistributable and "\bin\vc90" there isn't NCSEcw4_RO.dll.
Without this dll I get two errors by gdalinfo --formats (that cannot find
it).
This dll is under the 4.2 version o

You must use the 4.1 version of the SDK.

Ok, a bit better..
Just reinstalled the 4.2 version of ERDAS SDK, copied 4dlls from
redistributable to "osgeo4w/bin"
Now from the shell gdalinfo --formats I can see the ECW extension.
Qgis now can load ecw (they are between its extension list), but if I try to
open one of them Qgis crashes..

Try installing the alogcat application and see what caused the error.

maybe it is a dbf reserved word?
it is in pgsql

I've got a shapefile with an attribute called Length.
If I try to use this attribute in calculations in the Field Calculator for
instance like:
LENGTH / SOMETHING
I then get the error "Invalid expression syntax. The error message of the
parser is: 'syntax error, unexpected '/', expecting '("

Dear Paolo
thanks for you reply,
by the way, can you suggest a way to solve my problem?
I Think I followed the hints found around your mailing list without
success...
If I solve my problem I can collaborate to describe the walktrough in your
next entry in the FAQ ;-))
Thanks

Dear all
I face the same problem, ECW data not supported...
I tried both on a WinXP workstation and on a Netbook with W/ onboard.
Installed Qgis 1.7.2 trough "osgeo4w-setup", with gdal-ecw 1.8.0.1.
My qgis.bat says:
"@echo off
SET OSGEO4W_ROOT=d:\OSGeo4W
call "%OSGEO4W_ROOT%"\bin\o4w_env.bat
