Hi there
I am setting up a print composer with QGIS 1.8. What I am missing is a
plugin for the North Arrow llike the one that exists for the main
QGIS window. I helped myself out with a flash and a "N" on top of it but
that's not what I really want.
Does anybody have a suggestions?
thanks a lot
They are not plugins anymore but part of qgis core - you can find them
in View->Decorations

I just upgraded from version 1.7.4 to 1.8.0 and can't find the decorations
plug-in, either through "Manage" or "Fetch." Is there some new way to get north
arrows, copyright symbols, and scale bars in Lisboa?
Thank you,

Hello everybody,
I am working with multispectral images, but each band is an independent
file and I need to create a multifile image.
Does anybody know how to do it with qgis?
Thank you!

I suppose you use shapefile. In this case, you can't have attributes
longer than 255 bytes, this limitation of DBF format (used to store

Hi Lorenzo,
One thing that is worth a try is to use VRT files. See
http://www.gdal.org/ogr/drv_vrt.html
With a vrt file you can combine several files that have the same table
structure to one virtual file.
Maybe it is worth a try? I don't know if the same OS limitations apply
then or not.
For those who want to try things out, in a Unix shell type:
lsof -p 10371
where 10371 is the QGIS process id (so, adjust it).
Each time you open a file, enter the same command and you'll see how many
files QGIS is opening.

The detection is now done in a thread, so you can cancel the detection.

sorry for the fuzz, I had the metadata tickbox checke in my 1.7 install
it is considerably faster with that setting in 1.8, too

Hi,
indeed, it is an operating system (OS) restriction. In my GNU/Linux the
limit is 1024 by default, but you are able to change it. You would need to
search how to change it on your OS. See [1].

Germán
