anybody knows how to get it back or revert it.

Try with another computer. Or zip a small project that crashes and send it
along so we can test.
I am ready to bet that this is an install issue. You could also try and
reinstall Windows. You may need a clean installation if you have too many
problems.

Yes, Nicolas is right. In my input data: 0 defined as the No data value.
Then getting the mask as you want. Will try similar rage dataset again

It was probably a small mistake. Happened a few time to me when I was
working too fast. If you can reproduce the problem, then it's a bug and
you can log a bug report.

Thanks, that worked.
Still don't know why exactly the same string caused the field calculator to
strip out all the ID values even though it was updating a different column.

I suspect that you are using the Open Layers plug-in?
I would try to avoid it, cause there are some issues.
1. It changes your coordinate system to Google Mercator to adopt to the
tile format. Changing back the original CRS is possible, but opens a can

You can either use:
- Vector menu > Data Management Tools > Split vector layer
- Processing ToolBox > Split vector layer
- LayersByField plugin (I haven't tried it)
You need a field containing unique values, I think.
