[qmailtoaster] SMTP-AUTH vchkpw problems

I am trying to get SMTP-AUTH working correctly with vchkpw. I can telnet to the port, and get the challenge, but all authentication fails. I've tried PLAIN, LOGIN, and CRAM-MD5. I do not see any logging in the qmail logs and haved looked online to no avail. Thanks for any help, -Mark
