I have been reading through security advisories from the Xen website: https://xenbits.xen.org/xsa/ I haven't gone through them all yet... but so far, not a single one involves breaking into dom0 with HVMs. I think for this reason, QUBES 4.0 is switching over to HVMs. I don't know when QUBES 4.
