My friend gave me this low cost HP AMD laptop to test with Qubes, which should
be quite similar by hardware to other low cost HP laptops out there... First of
all I installed the latest BIOS update "F22" which came out yesterday.

You should be able to build with desktop enabled. As it says in the
docs it's straightforward. What was the issue?

I use a commercial simulation environment running on Debian. I installed
the software in the Debian TemplateVM and it is running fine. However,
when starting an AppVM based on that template I cannot use the
simulation software because of the flexlm license manager failing. This
