The volume control is digital done in 24 bits before the dac.

The DAC chip is not really the issue. The design of the surrounding
circuitry is equally important, especially the power supply, grounding
and noise suppression strategies.
The Touch has superior sound quality to the radio, boom, duet and sb3;
either via it's internal DAC or via an external DAC.

Touch purpose made for conecting to a stereo or home theater, has RCA
analog SDIFF digital and TOSlink digital and has a headphone amp too (
of lower sq tha it's rca )
Radio made for standalone use with it's built in speaker has an
headphone out.
use the rigth product for it's intended purpose ?

Correct. Internet radio is not a high quality source unfortunately. The

I forgot to mention I was thinking to get an add-on SB receiver for the

I read the Specs. The Radio's DAC actually has

The Squeezebox Radio doesn't have a digital output, so you can't connect

I am thinking to get an HK reveriver 3390 or 3490. The 3490 has digital
inputs and the DAC in it is "an AKM, AK-4384 DAC which offers a 24 bit

It doesn't really matter because squeezebox server will automatically
downsample files to the maximum supported by each player.

ALL SB devices in the last 6 years are 24-bit.
The radio is max 48kHz, as is the Receiver and Boom and SB3. Touch and
TP are 96 kHz.
The Radio's DAC is a Texas Instruments TLV320AIC3104
Specs say it does do 24bit
