There are no plastic contacts I am aware of.
They are plugged in 24/7 but not playing most of the time apart from the
kitchen radio which is on most of the time I'm home. It has the same
problem though.

In the Radio's Extended Settings menu there is a menu about Power that
displays some measurements. One is whether the battery is loading. Don't
remember what other values are there and not sure whether they are
helpful in any way...

I have four SB Radios. Three have batteries bought with them and one has
one I bought at a later date.
After recently having a new consumer unit fitted, the mains power had to
be turned off for about 1 hour.

I have found conflicting information on where the voltage sense wire
should connect. Some schematics show the connection to the positive
terminal of cell #7, some show to the

vmon2=8V, so it does seem that the correct connection point for vmon2 is
the wire between the positive terminal of cell #6 and the negative
