If i remember correctly: typically a reynolds 753 tubeset was 757 with an 858
down tube. The 753 rivendells had a longer 7 section in the seat tube.
Reynolds 531c was slightly thicker inside with 858 and a 10710 downtube.
Reynolds 501 and some of the ishiwatta tubes where 969 in all tubes.

on location) after years of hard use. Friend was light (< 150).

Oh, OK. Well, I just went riding and it's a windy day, and I know, just

and even 10 with friction shifters, I know that it *does* require a fine
touch and just a wee bit of misalignment can cause slippage.

Have you tried the pulley swap on the derailure? It's brilliant. Puts the
pulley with less wiggle on the top and that works far better for friction
shifting. Solved my ghost shifting with 8 and 9 speed cassettes.
