Just by chance, I was stripping the tread off a dead Parigi-Roubaix
yesterday, to recycle as sidewall patches/boots for other tires. Another
rider on a group ride flatted out, and I shocked the crowd by producing not
just a spare, but a *nice* spare (GB Cerf), so the rider could finish the

Still not back on Betty. Surgery was pushed back two months. I'm five and a
half weeks out now, and I rode the stationary bike at the gym for the first
time last week. It may be a few more months yet before I'm back on the
road.

Dear Eunice,
You have mountains their just geologically older. Despite the fact you
don't have huge hills to climb you do have torrential rain to add to the
mix of adventure. I thank you for your kind words. I think my other
coffeeneuring ride will be less challenging.
Great images by the way and

That looks like a great ride though it seems like a completely different
world from mine (no mountains here). Really lovely landscapes.
Mine was coffee without walls (thanks to a fellow coffeeneur!). Beautiful
weather for riding, too.

Thanks everyone. Lots of good reading there Andy. I think I'll throw a
smaller tire on there first followed by a new short cage derailleur. I have
a pretty intense suspicion that the upper pulley vs. hanger relationship is
critical in this experiment. I'll keep noodling and let you know the

Not a bit of shimmy from the Singer, and I've had it up around 40mph a few
times. Rides like it was on rails.
However, I haven't had a shimmy problem with the Bleriot, either.

Was planning to build this bike up with my brother who then decided stay in
Italy and have babies. Way too much crossover with the bikes I have so time to
move it off to a welcoming home.
Still in the box Soma San Marcos 54cm. Tiburon Blue current model. Takes 650b

The last time I checked the Bleriot info on Cyclofiend, it was 8-5-8 tubing but Oversized (5 = 0.5mm). OS 8-5-8 is more rigid (less beam deflection) than Std 10-7-10. Your Herse is Std tubing, so even if it was 9-6-9, it is less rigid than the Bleriot, and should "plane" better. I was interested i
Hi Jon,
Thanks for the kind words. It was a hellacious climb with loaded bikes &
heat. At this point I'm accustomed to the high temps. Had it been 20
degrees cooler probably would have made our goal.
The Selle Anatomica X saddle is on my 1984 Trek 660 race bike. Though I've

Hi, All,
The Compass Knickers are about a plus-two to plus-three length on me when
worn below the waist but above the hip, and run true to size.
The front zipper pockets are pretty shallow--you'll be using those
zippers--and the (right hand only) back zip pocket is large enough for a

Dear Ron,
veering off-topic, but I've gone through thirty-five Parigi-Roubaix, Strada
Blanca, and Eroica tires since 2008. None have delaminated. Their older
(tubulars) had problems occasionally, as did Clement, FMB, and (rarely)
Vittoria tubulars.

Great ride report and pics. Really enjoyed it! That was a hell-of- a climb
in that heat! So cool when you meet nice people along the way!
How did the new saddle work??

Eric, thanks for responding to my questions. I don't foresee loading my bike
up very much either. I think a rear rack and 2 or 3 good bags will provide all
the flexibility that I need. Good luck with your sale,

Not as well I'd bet that the tubing on the Bleriot is stouter, which would
affect the liveliness of the frame.

I think the Singer is the faster bike. Might be the wheels/tires, but there is
something faster about it.
