"Hmm, nix on the silver with yellow."
The yellow is distracting, even in a small pic. Plain silver would look
great, and compliment the black components. The black racks look
understated & don't call attention to themselves. It makes the whole bike
look more muted & serious. This is one of

Aaand that’s one of the challenges with modern bike shops. It is hard to
find one that just gets the job done right the first time. I’d suggest you talk

Those new bike adjustment periods can be equal parts exciting and frustrating.
I've had my Homer a little over a month now and was making a minor adjustment

It'll be interesting to see, Todd. I spent most of my riding time fiddling

are super easy to reach and operate. I'm not much of a dropba
I love the look of that bike. Will be curious to see how you get on with those

Patrick,
Wonderful post. Could have been written by Grant on his Blahg - especially
since he likes to include musical references. In 1968 I had no thought of
turning 64 but here I am as well and actually a bit beyond.
Birthday wishes and I hope you have more delightful spring rides.

Good luck - this chainring setup is what I settled on for my new bike,

Thanks, Brett. The black/silver mix is a slightly unintentional surprise that
came as a result of buying the bike as a built demo, then having them remove
stuff I was replacing with my own parts. It originally had an all-black rear

Joe, it's a beauty. I dig the mix of black and silver used in the build. I
have the same fenders in silver on another bike and like them a lot. They
look terrific with those tires and wheels. Let us know how you like that

As Laing says, those are shims used to adapt front derailleurs with larger
clamps to narrower seat tubes. If your derailleur is properly matched to the
tube I wouldn't recommend using anything under it, just be judicious when
tightening the clamp bolt.

Yes, long wheelbase. As the Riv copy states, it's pretty much the same bike as

On my old mountain bike, I had 29+ set up with Stans Flow rims (23mm
internal) and 29x3" tires. No issues down to about 17psi riding
aggressively on the trail. I don't think there would be any issue unless
you were well down in the low-teens.

The shims are usually used to put a 31.8 derailleur on a 28.6 seat tube.
(or a 28.6 derailleur onto a French 28.0 seat tube) Some manufacturers
include shims with the derailleur. I used a cut down handlebar shim (26 -

Hi
I often see some bits of aluminum underneath the front derailleur clamp
to presumably act as a soft shim to keep the seat tube from being
crimped due to over tightening of the clamp?.
I crimped a seat tube before in the past and want to avoid that on my new
Appaloosa build.

As others here, I wondered about the rim issue. My conclusion is it really is a
near non-issue. Would a wider rim brake rim be ideal? Sure. But the
squirrliness people fear isn’t that big a deal. The Cliffhanger rims are
recommended for up to 65mm tires, that’s 2.6” (2.56” to be exact, which tir
