I have used amber shellac on both yellow and orange Newbaum’s and found the
yellow to be closer to the honey brown on a Brooks.
The old adage was the tape should match the saddle. Are you sticking with that
one? And are you committed to cloth tape/shellac?

IMO, you cannot go wrong with TB14 rims. They are beautiful and bomb-proof. My
LBS is a big fan.
As for your hub choices, again either one is a winner unless you are trying to
shave off some weight as you suggest. Those rims with either hubs would be (for
me) about the most beautiful vintage-in

I stop by Riv HQ every 4-5 months on my way through town. It is always a

I’ve used the Tiagras, basic Tektros, and TRP RRLs. The TRPs are the most
comfortable for me and look pretty. They offer multiple points of contact on
the levers and a solid perch to sit on if you like to ride on the hoods a lot.

I had them most recently with a Technomic. What I’ve found is I just don’t like
to be upright and so I found myself grabbing the very front part of the bar,
which as you know doesn’t give you much to play with.
One of these days I am going to pop in at RBW and try the Albastache on a demo.

My experience? B17 was comfortable right out of the box. Brooks Pro does take a
lot longer to break in as some others said. Cambium felt hard and inflexible,
and that was disappointing because I really wanted to like it. I would still
like to try a carved one though.
