As Ray says the one Riv sells should work, but be aware it's going to scratch the heck out of your seat lug. Personally I would just keep a hex key handy for adjusting saddle height when needed. On Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 5:58:30 AM UTC-7 Paul in Vermont wrote: > Hello! > > Does anyone

Here's something cool linked in the latest (when I'm writing this) Riv email. I owned this bike! I bought it as a frame, no fork, and built it up super nice..the end result is what you see in the pics. Rare and fun, but utterly useless on the hill I lived on at the time so now this Brandon

I shall dissent from the others who like these things. I had the one Riv used to sell mounted on a Clem and it was really stinking heavy. At the time I lived in an upstairs apartment and the extra weight when lifting the bike up those steps was quite noticeable and I took it off. Joe Bernard

52cm Clems use 650B, but Analog will have something for 26" wheel bikes that need tubeless-compatible rims. The answer to the question "can stock Clem wheels be tubeless" is: maybe if you have a compressor and are really good at this stuff. My recommendation is get them good wheels and tires

2021-04-13 Thread Joe Bernard
Update, I'm overthinking it. If you use my idea of laying the bar against the wall, do this: Have the levers slid far in, bar flat against smooth wall, slide lever over until it's just brushing the wall, then slide back towards the stem about a centimeter. Repeat on other side, done! On

[RBW] Re: brake levers on albastache bars

2021-04-13 Thread Joe Bernard
I like to mount them with the ends of the levers a smidge inside of the plane of the grips, such that if you learned the bar flat against a wall the levers wouldn't touch it. For symmetry you can get one lever mounted, then get a piece of masking tape cut to the exact length from the inside

It's the decals that would have me looking for a painter familiar with the Riv aesthetic. I've seen video of Rick Stefani putting a cream panel on a seattube and it's quite astonishing to watch him eye it and then nail it in exactly the right spot. That guy knows his stuff. Joe Bernard

Is Hot Tubes in Mass. close enough? They've been doing custom paint a long time and Mike Flanigan (ANT Bikes) works there, he's a Riv guy who would know the vibe of these bikes. Hopefully RBW still has decals they can source. https://www.hottubes.com/ Joe Bernard On Monday, April 12, 2021

50 in 5 minutes! As Jason Fuller mentioned on the Platypus thread, it appears that the Radavist/Crust crowd - and I would add Path Less Pedaled and Bike Snob - have pushed Riv to a new mainstream in cycling that isn't going away soon. Will mentioned in the recent newsletter/email that he's

Ben, when you say "stuck" is the chain jamming and stopping the cranks, or is it falling between the rings? If it's just a problem of the chain not moving over far enough to hit the granny, you may be able to adjust the indexing (or reposition the cable in the fixing bolt) to make that shift

Yes, or as Patrick mentioned you can use any old (and cheap) Shimano mtb triple. The 24-38 Silver cranks are a triple with the big ring replaced by a smaller pant guard; if you mount the derailer in its normal position the cage contours will hit the middle and granny rings in the right spot.
