Hi Deb,
I use 39x15 on my commute bike, slightly taller 49x18 for brevets. I like
to change the rear cog to 19 if there are steep pitches, which is why I
like larger chainrings. Going from 15 to 14 or 16 is a bigger jump. On the
other hand, if you plan to switch to an easier gear for some secti
Deb:
Try a 40x15. That will give you a little less than 72 inches--same gear that I
used for the first week of the Big Fix and all of PBP in '07. If you're feeling
strong and don't have steep hills to climb, switch to a 40x14 (76 inches).
P.S. Sorry I missed you on the Last Chance today! Hope
I wish someone would give *me* a Quickbeam!
If you can ride ss for 200km, then your are strong enough for a 70" -- 75"
gear. The 15 t will give you a 72", and a 44 will give you a 70" with the
17 t. Me, I'd opt for the 44/17 (but then, I'm nowhere near able to ride
125 miles at a go).

Just a note here to say that I have a lovely orange QB, given to me as a gift.
I've had it for 6 years, and Friday I rode it on a 200k permanent/brevet up
around Yolo & Solano counties. It was delightful. This is the longest ride I've
done with it, and will most likely change the gearing. I have
