Hi Matthew, thanks for the feedback on the Surly tensioner. Hopefully there were no accidents resulting from it falling off. I'd hate to see that happen while under load! On Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 8:06 AM, Matthew Snyder mwsny...@gmail.com wrote: Hi David, I used the Surly chain tensioner and

Hi David, I used the Surly chain tensioner and was not terribly impressed with it -- it's a fairly simple component, so all I really ask is that it just works. I had lots of little issues with it. The biggest problem was that the floating pulley bar (for lateral adjustment) kept loosening up,

The tensioner was skipping because it was maladjusted. When I swung it all the way up to touch the cog, it was outboard by 5mm or so. I moved it over to line up properly, and now it works! Who'd'a thunkit? Philip On Jun 26, 6:33 pm, CycloFiend cyclofi...@earthlink.net wrote: on 6/26/11 11:36

I have a Pyramid like Eric's on a bike, and I'm having trouble with it skipping under load. I think it's a matter of fussing with it. Or replacing the chain entirely... I really like Eric's wingnut mod; I'm setting up a 36x14 / 32x18 dingle (waiting on a 4-bolt 32t ring). Philip Philip

For a while I had a Shimano Nexus hub on my AHH and needed a chain tensioner. I tried the Shimano tensioner and, for some that reason that I can no longer remember, it did not work and I had to return it. I think it had something to do with the spacing. I then tried the Surly with great success

Ditto on the Alfine chain tensioner. I used it in a past life on my 2x8 Fargo (with Alfine 8 speed hub and front derailleur)... Gosh, If I had only known about the Hammerschmidt!!! BTW just the other day I rode a freeride bike with a Hammerschmidt crank... WOW, I've never felt anything shift so
