I agree that daruma set up is a waste of valuable real estate. Jitensha
sells a nice L bracket that I use. To absolutely maximize space between
the crown & tire, use a dremel to cut a small slot in the fender and mount
the L bracket through it with the round heads inside the fender. You will
I did a similar hack on a AHH since the drauma is so big. I used a flat,
rounded head screw (hard to describe) underneath though, it didn't protrude
any more than a rivet, which I tried but it snapped over some big bumps.
Maybe my riveting skills suck though so you might have better luck.

Fork-crown darumas are giant space-wasters in my opinion, and unnecessarily
heavy.
My most frustrating fender experiences are all daruma-related. I would
rather make a custom L bracket and rivet it directly to the fender than
ever use a daruma again.
