shining your hubs (as if that really mattered). But, then again, in
use they hide the hub and thus you can't see the shine anyway. Do
people with hubshiners remove t

Goat lard is probably cheaper that Obernauf's...round here one can get
the entire goat for $25

I don't know Jim, Obenauf's has always been the choice leather
hubshiner treatment in The Shire.

Yup. Had them in the very early 70's. Red vinyl with a button
reflector.
Hadn't even thought of them until today.

No, I'd say they were definitely meant for use full time. They were
actually quite the rage when I was a kid some 40 odd years ago -
My memories of hub shiners goes even farther back. When I was kid in the 60s,
we put things like this on our hubs. They made them back in the day out of
vinyl; the nicer ones had a button reflector on them.

I have to say, I thought these were a joke. Seems like the chance of
one of these things coming unsnapped and locking up a wheel are about
50/50. I am surprised that a company as conservative safety wise as
Riv would make something like this. Maybe I am way off, but this seems
like a very bad idea.
I remember these from the 80's. We would put leather thongs/strings
around Campagnolo and Phil Wood hub bodies to keep them clean and
shiny.
Never thought of getting "store bought" versions, but there you have
it.
