I never met Jobst personally, but had email conversations with him and had
a lot of respect for him. Along with Sheldon Brown, he was kind of an icon
to me.
I have my own little tribute to Jobst on The Retrogrouch Blog -- just
posted a few moments ago:
A sad (and perhaps grateful) day for cyclists. I didn't learn of Jobst's
passing until today. And ironically just last evening I built up a
beautiful set of wheels for a good friend in record time (with seemingly
